James Van Toever

  • Physiotherapist
  • Professional Bike Fitter
  • Manual Therapist

James completed his Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Queen’s University in 2011. He grew up in a small town on Prince Edward Island, where his passion for competitive sports started at a young age. He played competitive hockey, raced on the alpine ski team, and spent every weekend in the summer on his bike. His love for sports grew in high school where he played soccer and ultimately turned down a post-secondary scholarship to play in the U.S. so that he could pursue full-time professional road cycling and mountain bike racing. In 2003, James won the U-23 Canadian National Mountain Biking Championships in Whistler, B.C. and went on to represent Canada at the World Championships in Switzerland that same year. In his spare time, you will find him training for half marathons or doing loops around Gatineau Park on his road bike.

It was James’ love of sports that lead him to a career in helping people overcome injuries, improve function and stay healthy. He believes the secret to success is building a strong patient-therapist relationship and incorporating many different treatment techniques. James has undergone extensive continuing education and can skilfully apply a combination of manual therapy, Active Release Techniques, GUNN IMS dry needling, acupuncture, and Functional Range Conditioning (FRC), along with home exercise programs to meet every patient’s individual needs.
